Is there a specific point when it is considered AIDSWhen multiple organ failure becomes a very real possibilityAccording to the HIV specialist I work with, diagnosis changes from HIV to AIDS when the TCell count drops to 200 or below.
Add: With current treatment, it may be many years before that occurs.I was told that hiv turns into Aids when your CD4 count reaches 200. I am a older lady and have had Hiv since 1995 and my count goes to 400 at times. The health depts. and family doctors can monitor your blood monthly to see what that level is and you should see your doctor as often as you can. no, there is no specific time frame, AIDS happens when it happens and that is different for every HIV infected person.it is when the T cells (infection killing cells) in the blood reach such a low that the body cannot fight off any infection . With modern mediaction people can now live for 10, 20 years with HIV before they develop full blown AIDS. I only know the basics of this, it is a complex disease (arent they all !!) and there is a bit more detail here
http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/art...It has nothing to do with CD4 counter, you are officially a AIDS patient when you have your first AIDS defining illness due to vulnerability to infection. (which is a result of a low cd4 count)#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
