• Is there a way to make signatures automatically cut off at a certain length? I have a signature image and line limit enforced, but people still manage to have huge signatures. Since we allow 2 images per sig, they are able to upload two at that limit, and add text to it as well. Can someone point me towards a modification for cut them off, so I don't have to scroll the pages with sigs taking up half of them.

  • I think what he is looking for is the same thing we are looking for... A way to set a REAL limit on the sig area that users cannot get around.

Let's say you want to allow 500w X 150h of maximum allowable area for your users sigs. You don't care how many images they put in there or how much text... just as long as that is the MAXIMUM space it would ever take on any one post.

And obviously, if there's a smaller sig, it should only take the space needed.

So what are the settings to do this? The setting of picture size and text limits don't seem to work for users that post links to larger pictures in their sigs... or multiple pictures.

(assuming the sig below works here and you guys haven't figured it out on the base vbulletin software... look below to see what I mean)

  • ^ Yea, this guy knows what I mean.

I do. And I think this is a problem with the vBulletin setup and not something that should require a mod and work around...

A signature space should be able to be confined... that's why they have all the settings for picture sizes and whatnot... But it would seem that limiting the users to one picture of an exact size is the only way to keep the image sizes down... but they could still express themselves with larger type...

Ideally, there should be some sort of option to set signature space allowed per user group. And then "Cutoff or Add Scrollbars"...

I've seen some mods that try to put this basic feature in, but they're usually clunky and hold the space universally for all usergroups and when there is only a few words of text as someone's sig, it still shows a big empty space.

Support: Any chance there's a way in vBulletin to help confine "expressive" users from taking up too much sig space?

  • I mean where whatever's inside the signature stops displaying it and cuts if off completely after a certain pixel height. This is to stop people from linking to an image that's 500 pixels tall or something.

  • Sorry I have no idea what you mean. However all the available signature permissions are in the Usergroup permissions. If you are looking for something that is not there, then this requires modifying the code. We cannot officially support code modifications or forums running modified code, however you can try searching or asking for help with this over at www.vbulletin.org.

  • I'm pretty sure I've seen this on another forum a while back, where it would cut off the space, so it's out there somewhere.

  • I got a PM from admin about the sig demo... :) (Can't reply though)

Sorry... I did forget about the rules. It has been a while since I signed up. I have not used a sig here.

...but it was only to show a point about your customer's forums.

Control in signatures is something you have coded into vBulletin. But I don't see why if there's no stopping even the most novice user from, really, accidentally taking up so much space.

I'll eventually find a way to do it correctly, and hopefully not bring down my forums trying. :o

Signature area size limit... with or without scrollbars when exceeded... I'll let you know if I ever see it...

    thanks,
    Mike

Good luck Chris... let me know if you find something that works.
