• Ok so excluding Bertha lets throw each ones single hurricane prediction , (Category/Impact Location), into this forum...

As for mine a Category 4 / Fla Keys...

And when that lucky bastard guesses right at the end of the year they can gloat! =)

  • Cat. 2 Melbourne, FL (I'm moving there, so let's not have that before August 7, hopefully not till late August)

  • Wow, Orlando devestated...that would take one heckuva hurricane to do as much destruction as Katrina that far inland :)

  • San Diego, California
Former cat 3 downgraded to depression at landfall.

Funny guess----as it made me recall a TV movie I watched when a kid: which had the recurrent theme song, "They Call the Wind Maria." running through it. A hurricane hits southern California; and in the mountains inland, they had a blizzard. I wondered if that was possible. I Yahood this and the following came up:

Walt Disney Presents: A Storm Called Maria (pronounced: muh rye uh - or Mariah)
    Synopsis

    Release:
    1959
    Director:
    Kenneth Nelson
    Starring:
George Kritsky, Walt Bowen, Leo Quinn ...more
    Synopsis
Co-produced by Ken Nelson Productions, this episode of Walt Disney Presents weaves together newsreel footage of several different storms to represent one huge and dangerous "big wind." Based on a book by George R. Stewart, professor of meterology at the University of California and the man credited with the idea of "naming" storms, the episode traces the storm called Maria from its origins in Japan to the coast of California. Though professional stormtrackers do their best to warn the populace and the local officials work overtime to prepare for Maria, widespread havoc, destruction and death is inevitable. The cast is comprised of "real" people, among them dam superintendent George Kritsky, telephone lineman Walt Bowen, and highway superintendent Leo Quinn. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Well since I am not an illegitimate child, there is no luck involved, and I don't need to gloat, I will pick Death Valley, CA. with a Cat. 4.

Oh, what has happened to weather forums? Next thing we will see will be threads and posts asking who has been arrested and posting the most crude jokes.

HEADLINE: Sea World tidal surge wipes out Goldilox (and bagels), the seven dwarfs, the Magic Kingdom, and the statue of Shaquille O'Neal.

When Wilma, and many other fast moving hurricanes, crossed Florda, they came out the other side (100 miles or so) having lost 15-20 mph. of their winds. So, theoretically, if a 150 mph storm came into the Tampa area moving NE, Orlando could get 130. Now, Orlando is not all the way across the state, so the loss of wind might be less than 20 mph; BUT, the terrain around there is not quite as flat as extreme S. Florida. Now, compared to most places, it is flat; as there are some elevations in the 100-125 ft range along the 64 mile route from Tampa Bay to Orlando.

Of course Tampa is more likely to fit the scenario menioned in the earlier post; and an Orlando disaster would be mostly from wind, not surge.

There was as a bunch of damage to homes in Orlando when Charley came over--having traveled about 145 miles overland, from a landfall much south of Tampa. Winds at MCO-Orlando gusted to 107 mph--and Charley was a tiny storm.

Well, young Turk, this is not "prediction", this is soothsaying, or dart board throwing. You need to apply for a job as an intern at "Accuweather." (misnomer.), or the Farmer's Almanac (who almost every year "predicts" a major hurricane hitting S. Florida.)

I'll give you this one: cat #4, Portland, Maine; after passing thru Coney Island, NY as a cat #5.

I certainly hope your "prediction" of cat #4 in the Keys is not part of your fantacies for gaining attention, in one easy step, program. If you plan on chasing something like that: you will lose the car you drive down there---there is nowhere to park it above the surge potential for a cat #4 (much less a high cat #2, or 3.)
Bring your inner tube, rubber duky, and snorkel, and write a will. You will almost be able to gloat---you will bloat.

Anyone going to the Keys (excluding Jim Leonard, he lives there, and is blessed), for a major hurricane is not bright. A cat #4, just plain stupid. Most of the Keys are 3 to 4 ft. above sea level.

    Lechiam!

  • Not sure why, But I'm liking southeast Florida this year, so my guess is a cat. 1 in the Miami area.

  • i'll go out on a huge limb and say cat 1 Cape Hatteras:P

  • I'm pretty sure southern California has experienced a couple weak tropical cyclones in the last hundred years or so. Could look it up, but I'm lazy and at work. ;)

Yes, this is a public forum where minors also visit to learn and discuss weather related issues. Try and keep the foul language at home.

  • Not to go off topic but trying to guess where a Hurricane will hit is like wishcasting to me. I know Hurricanes provide much needed rain for some areas but they also cause alot of damage to towns and peoples homes so I realy do not want to see a CAT 4 or 5 hit the US. The last thing we need is another Katrina.

So if we do get another Katrina and say a huge town like Orlando FL is devestated are you going to gloat and say I told you so? I would be feeling sorry for the people who had to go through that or come back to thier ruined or destroyed houses.

If you realy are bored and have nothing better to do PM me and I will PM you some links of weather sites where you can post stuff like this all day long and nobody will care. I know a few good sites like that. (Not sites I visit)

I ment no offence so please do not take any and please watch the language as it offends me. Thanks.
